The Hon Thom cable car opened in 2018 and runs for about 7.9 km from a station near An Thoi to the island of Hon Thom, crossing the fishing harbour and several smaller islands on the way. At its opening it was recognised as the longest three-rope cable car in the world, and it remains one of the longest over-sea cable car rides anywhere. The ride takes roughly fifteen to twenty minutes each way, and the large cabins rise high enough over the water to see the whole southern archipelago spread out below.
At the far end is Sun World Hon Thom, a resort park built around the island’s beach. Its best-known parts are Aquatopia, a water park with slides and pools, and Exotica, an amusement park with roller coasters and rides. Tickets are sold in several combinations — cable car only, cable car with water park, with meals and so on — and the line-up changes, so read exactly what your ticket includes.
What to see and do: Hon Thom Cable Car & Sun World
Ride the cable car
Sit on the side facing the islands for the best views, and go early or late in the day for softer light. The ride crosses An Thoi harbour, with its brightly painted fishing boats, before heading out over open water.
Spend the day at Aquatopia
The water park is the main reason families buy the combined ticket. Bring swimwear and sun protection; lockers and food are available inside.
Ride the coasters at Exotica
The amusement park on Hon Thom has some of the biggest rides on the island. Check opening days and which rides are included with your ticket.
Relax on Hon Thom’s beach
The beach in front of the park is calm and shallow. It makes a good break between rides, or the whole point of the trip if you simply want an island beach without a boat.
Pair it with Sunset Town
The cable car station sits next to Sunset Town. Come back from Hon Thom in the late afternoon, walk to the Kiss Bridge for sunset and stay for the evening show.

How to get to Hon Thom Cable Car & Sun World
- The station: the An Thoi cable car station is in the south of the island near Sunset Town, about 40 minutes by car from Duong Dong.
- On a tour: many combination tours include the cable car with an island boat trip and hotel transfers.
- Independently: buy a ticket in advance and take a Grab car, a taxi or a scooter to the station.
Insider tips
- The cable car can pause or close in strong wind or thunderstorms. Morning departures are usually the most reliable in the rainy season.
- Queues build late in the morning on weekends and holidays; go early or after lunch.
- Check the last cable car back before you settle in on Hon Thom.
- Ticket prices and inclusions change frequently. Compare what is in each option rather than the headline price.
